Beat the heat summer dresses

It’s fair to say that in the UK we’re just not used to such scorching temperatures, and as a result our wardrobes are woefully underprepared.

Summer dressing for most consists of beachwear bought out only with the promise of a far flung destination. Whilst the idea of breezing around the office in a summer dress is an appealing one, it’s nonetheless not always appropriate.

A walk down any UK street in the height of summer will undoubtedly reveal no end of inappropriate body flesh on show; think bum cheek baring shorts and crotch skimming hemlines.

The line between staying cool and baring all is easily crossed. So with the hot weather set to stick around, here is our pick of summer dresses that will ensure you keep your cool.

Avoid anything short – just above the knee should be the limit but for a more stylish length, look for hemlines that fall mid-calf.

Sleeveless shift dresses in cotton and linen are good investments that can be layered when the mercury inevitably drops.

Camisole style designs are an ideal summer style, but to stop your look straying into the negligee territory try and look for bolder colours (anything white, cream or pink will look like a nightie).

Take Care of the UK Cheaters!

I'm a girl who does small business on shoes, clothing. And own my online store. I'm not a bad-tempered person. But on this case, i'm really angry on them. I'm doing my own business and be sincere with any of my customers. There would be quite a lot of people sufferred this kind of cheating.

Here I'll share with you my experience of being cheated by the UK cheaters. A kind of painful lesson.

I have serveral customers from UK who are cheaters. I divided into three kinds of cheaters.

Let's talked the first kind. These people who only do one order and when they got it, they declined the payment. And then claimed it as "Scam". Who is the scammer? That's apprently known.

The second kind of cheaters are those who do serveral orders one time. Some cheaters do small orders, but some do big orders (usually over $400). And the goods in the orders are totally different. Apparently they are not serious. Fortunately, there is only one successful payment allowed in 24 hours on credit card from the same person. Such rules reduce the risk for sufferring bigger loss.

The third kind of cheaters are those who are kind of "Regular Customers". They have several orders before, so that you lower our guard and send the goods all the time and they signed it. You may think they are kind and doing real business. While, after they several orders, probably 3 or 4 orders, they then start to decline the payment for the orders after the most recent order has already been shipped out and claimed them as "Scam" one by one.

There is also one kind of cheaters. After I informed him that there is only one succssful payment allowed in 24 hours. And requested him to do it in another 24 hours or try another card. And then he may try with another person's name and card. But the same address. And they declined for more orders. Am I quite fool?

Here is one of the address of one cheaters: 14 elm tree court, london, England, United Kingdom se7 7dp. It's the address for people called Holla Mike, Tom Balogun and Douglas Balogun.

It's quite personal. But for cheaters, I should share with all of you the info and avoid more scamming from them. If you came across this address, please take care.

Anyway, I will not trust the UK people easily. I'm quite hurt. I have lost over $5000 for learning these cheaters. That's a big cost. I just want to remind any one who are doing business like me. Do not trust the people from UK easily. I'm not mean to be offensive. The cheater is only a small part of the UK people. Most of UK people are kind, that's no doubt. The cheaters are the moths of UK. They have greatly reduce my adorement to UK. Shame on you! Cheaters!

The Dating Rules Fashion Girls Live By

The Dating Rules Fashion Girls Live By
Fashion girls — they can be counted on for the latest advice in dressing and trends, but there's one other area where they have a specific expertise: dating. Hey, Carrie didn't land Mr. Big for nothing. So when the bible on the subject landed on our desks, we put everything else on pause and got to reading. Turns out there are 22 undeniably essential rules in Stephanie Simons's adorably illustrated All's Fair in Love and Wardrobe: A Fashion Editor's Rules on Shopping For Love. And much like you'll consult your favorite glossies for tips on restocking your wardrobe for Fall, we suggest you give these credos serious consideration.

1 Beware of invitations that are breezier than a sundress.
2 Relationships always look better on the model.
3 Keep your hang-ups in the closet.
4 Just because his watch is more expensive than yours doesn't mean his time is more valuable.
5 Always make an effort to look effortless, just like Kate Moss.
6 Unlike the tags on that bikini you wish you could take back, you don't need to be attached.
7 Getting back with your ex is like shopping at your own garage sale.
8 Believe in love at first sight, beyond the window display at your favorite jewelry boutique.
9 Unless you're a Birkin bag, being hard to get is overrated.
10 You can't tailor a man to your specifications, no matter how hard you try.
11 The higher the stiletto, the closer to closure.
12 Once a cheetah, always a cheetah.
13 Make like Topshop and appoint a collaborator to boost your sales.
14 With a little confidence, you can totally pull off something daring.
15 Lose the impossible shopping list.
16 Don't trust a guy who wears more jewelry than you.
17 It's never a good sign if he's not into labels (particularly the very exclusive boyfriend-girlfriend label).
18 Hudson, Tucker, Parker, and Vince are proof you can justify love without knowing his last name.
19 To truly appreciate a gem, you may need to look at him in a different light.
20 Never fight over a man as if he's the last gift with purchase.
21 Relationships and skinny jeans should allow room to breathe.
22 Text messages are the sweatpants of interpersonal communication. Lazy!

RENT THE RUNWAY LAUNCHES NETFLIX FOR ACCESSORIES

Photo: Rent the Runway

If you've been missing Netflix's almost-defunct DVD service, with its queues and regular snail mail deliveries, have no fear: Rent the Runway has launched a new, fashion-centric version of it.

For a monthly fee of $75, subscribers can choose three designer items to rent and return at their leisure, while also queuing items they've been lusting after. Once you're tired of wearing those Balenciaga sunglasses and that Clare Vivier clutch, you can send them back and RtR will send you two more items from your queue.

It's a big move for Rent the Runway, which has raised $54.4M in venture funding since launching in 2009. For one, it's now a resource for ladies in their day-to-day lives as opposed to just special occasions. It also marks a major expansion in brands and products -- according to Fortune, they've added 75 new designers just for this service, which only provides things like jewelry, handbags and outerwear -- basically everything but dresses.

It's not an entirely new idea, though: Bag Borrow or Steal has been renting out designer bags on a month-to-month basis for a decade now. Though, Rent the Runway Unlimited, as it's dubbed, could become a viable competitor, as it offers more than just handbags and is cheaper than most of Bag Borrow or Steal's rentals.

Plus, it fulfills our fast fashion needs without us having to buy poor quality items from fast fashion stores. The key will be offering the expensive "It" bags we all want but can't justify buying with the knowledge that they'll soon go out of style. At the moment, it doesn't have as many hot-ticket items as BBS -- the brands on offer include Clare Vivier, Elizabeth & James, Pamela Love, Eddie Borgo, Moschino and Balenciaga -- but we imagine the product assortment will only get better.

Tamara's Next Step

TAMARA MELLON knows what women want. Having built Jimmy Choo into an internationally renowned brand, in turn making herself a small fortune and being honoured with an OBE from the Queen, her eponymous brand that she started last year is now in such high demand that this week sees the launch of her own e-commerce site.

"We have fielded requests from around the globe and I have witnessed the shift in how women shop. I view e-commerce as an important selling platform," Mellon told us. "My life is primarily spent in New York, but London is also home so it was the natural next step for the Tamara Mellon brand."

Comprising ready-to-wear, accessories, and, of course, shoes, the site's new-season poster girl is Karlie Kloss who takes on the role of Kowboy Karlie, modelling the brand's signature fringing and leather goods. For Mellon, she is already more than aware of the benefits of having her own e-commerce in house.

"I feel that online fashion has changed the industry and I thoroughly embrace it," she said. "I love social media for that reason as it gives me the opportunity to have an immediate dialog with my customer."

It marks a busy year for the businesswoman, who also released her memoir, In My Shoes, in November- the paperback of which is released this week. With the speed at which she is charging ahead, it won't be long before the next installment is required.

Balmain's New Campaign Makes Statement About Diversity

Season after season, the number one criticism hurled at the fashion industry concerns the lack of diversity on the runways. Though it's an issue that's raised every year, few designers have made changes to their lineups—Jezebel reported last season that 78.69% of the models that walked the fall 2014 shows were white, only a 1.29% decrease from the spring 2014 season, when the number was 79.98%. It's those kind of stats that make Olivier Rousteing's fall Balmain campaign that much more exciting and impactful. (Still, it's worth noting that model and activist Bethann Hardison's Diversity Coalition, which called out designers guilty of using all-white castings in their runway shows, has affected some change.)

Shot by Mario Sorrenti, the ad features six gorgeous models—only one of whom is white. Jourdan Dunn, Cara Delevingne, Ysaunny Brito, Issa Lish, Binx Walton, and Kayla Scott star in the ad, lounging around and being gorgeous in animal print and leather looks styled by Katie Grand.

According to WWD, Rousteing wanted to make a statement with this campaign: "Insistent about speaking to his generation, the designer, 28, said showing 'the beauty of different ethnicities' reflects the reality of modern cities like Paris and his own boundary-breaking situation: being 'a black boy in a really important French house.'"

Plus Size Sales Have Risen $17.5 Billion Since 2013—Are Better Styling Options on the Horizon?

plus-sized sales

Despite plus-size apparel being so stunningly shunned by the fashion industry, sales have been on a steady rise over the last three years, proving that there might be more to this size 12 thing than designers are willing to acknowledge. On Monday The NPD Group released a market research study that showed progressive progress on plus-size market sales. Up an overall five percent, the category has generated $17.5 billion in the last year alone and is estimated to continue climbing. We’re not expecting to see a size 16 Fendi dress available anytime soon, but with improving markets come improved selection—meaning women over a size 12 won’t be limited to squeezing into a 10 or opting for the disastrous “women’s” selections available at most department stores.
plus-sized sales
Speaking as a woman who can squeeze into a size 10 on her best days and is muffin-topping a size 16 on her worst, an improved plus-size market can only be a good thing. Instead of looking for a general size large, which just sort of fits (and not necessarily well), women can find tailored pieces in styles that are actually fashionable—no more of this oversized, shapeless nonsense. “The plus-sized market segment is seeing light at the end of the tunnel after being hit particularly hard by the recession,” said Marshal Cohen, chief industry analyst of The NPD Group. “With that, retailers and designers are now viewing this area as a growth opportunity, and today there are indeed more plus-sized choices in stores.”

plus-sized salesThe only category dropping in the market was the 13-17 age group with an 11 percent decline. Ages 18-24 rose 27 percent over the last two years with $1.1 billion in sales, while the 25-34 age range grew only 11 percent. From ages 35-44 numbers stayed relatively stable, the 45-54 range grew by only eight percent and the 55-64 age group showed the most monetary growth with a nine percent increase and $4.2 billion in sales. The 65 and over age range was second in sales at $4 billion. While most of these sales have been generated by specialty stores and e-commerce, it reflects an expanding market that may soon mean saying good riddance to stretchy pants, baggy tunics and amorphous maxi dresses.

Winona Ryder Lands Major Fashion Campaign

This morning, when reading about why Rag & Bone cast Winona Ryder in their fall campaign (!!), I wanted to disagree with one of the reasons Marcus Wainwright, Rag & Bone's managing partner, cited: He told WWD that Winona was chosen for her "beautiful, timeless quality," and I wanted to call BS, at least on part of that.

You see, I think the 42-year-old actress is a smart choice precisely because she is heavily associated with one time period, the '90s, thanks to Edward Scissorhands and Reality Bites and that whole relationship with Johnny Depp. And these days, when it's hard to click more than three links on the Internet without running into some sort of '90s nostalgia tribute, and denim skirts, shower sandals, and other '90s staples walk the runways and dominate the sidewalks, it's hard to imagine Rag & Bone and Wainwright weren't thinking about Winona's '90s throwback appeal when they cast her--at least somewhat.
